She remarked, “For years I’ve felt this way, since Fruitvale Station, because I thought that was such a beautiful and powerful film.” Released in 2013, Fruitvale Station starred Michael B. Jordan and depicted the tragic events leading to the death of Oscar Grant, who was killed by a police officer in 2009.

Recalling the significance of Coogler’s work, Zendaya stated, “He means so much to the world, but he also means so much to us.” She even humorously referred to their cultural link, saying, “I know I don’t know you, but I feel like you’re my cousin. His accent is so strong, so Oakland, and he just makes beautiful work.”
