Steph Curry Targets Sunday Return Against Rockets

The Golden State Warriors are looking to improve their standing in the Western Conference as their star guard, Steph Curry, approaches a return. Curry has been sidelined since January 30 due to a right knee injury he sustained during a game against the Detroit Pistons.
Steph Curry’s Progress Towards Return
On Tuesday, the 38-year-old participated in a full practice session. He engaged in five-on-five scrimmaging, although head coach Steve Kerr described it as a light practice. Kerr indicated that while Curry would not play in the upcoming game, his return could be imminent.
- Curry’s potential return is targeted for Sunday against the Houston Rockets.
- He could also be available for the last five regular-season games.
“It’s a good step for him,” Kerr stated on Tuesday. He reiterated that the session was focused on drills, with both offensive and defensive work being conducted at half-speed.
Current Team Performance Without Curry
The Warriors have struggled without their leading scorer, managing a record of 13-23 in games that Curry missed. Since his injury, they have a record of 9-16. They also face challenges from injuries on their roster, including the absence of forward Jimmy Butler, who underwent surgery on a torn ACL in February. The Warriors are 13-24 in games without Butler and 11-20 since his surgery.
Curry averages 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season, boasting a shooting percentage of 46.8% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range. His return would undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the team.
Current Standings and Play-in Picture
As of Tuesday, Golden State ranks 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 36-39. They are not in danger of missing the play-in tournament, as the 11th-place Memphis Grizzlies have been mathematically eliminated with a record of 25-50. However, the Warriors are only three games behind the Los Angeles Clippers, who occupy the eighth seed and a more favorable position in the upcoming Play-In Tournament.
