The village of A Dieu in Dong Giang faces a critical situation after severe floods and landslides in late October and early November 2025. The hillside behind the village has developed large cracks, some reaching 500 meters long. These fissures grow larger with each rain, posing a danger to the 60 households living below.
Urgent Reconstruction Needed for Landslide-Hit Village A Dieu
On March 31, 2026, a journalist from El-Balad visited A Dieu and reported the growing anxiety among residents. Families have been separated from their homes due to the looming threat of landslides. Local resident Mrs. Bơloong Tý described the trauma faced by her family as they evacuated during last year’s heavy rains, with many taking shelter with relatives or in community centers. She expressed fears of an imminent collapse as the cracks in the hillside continue to widen.
Similarly, Mrs. Arâl Chượt reflected on how the hill that once safeguarded their village has turned into a persistent threat. Some families have been forced to demolish their homes, sacrificing their lifelong investments for safety. The constant danger posed by the unstable ground has prompted local authorities to take action.
Emergency Declaration and Relocation Plans
The Da Nang People’s Committee officially declared a state of emergency on January 23, 2026, due to the natural disaster’s impacts, as outlined in decision number 368/QD-UBND. This legal step makes it clear that the relocation of residents can no longer be postponed.
The Dong Giang authorities have identified a site for the relocation effort in the CLung Gươl A Póoc area, specifically on parcel 5, approximately 1 kilometer from A Dieu. This land, covering nearly 3,000 square meters, is elevated and stable, featuring well-established infrastructure. It provides essential access to electricity, water, and transportation, facilitating significant investment opportunities.
Cost and Community Response
President of the Dong Giang People’s Committee, Mr. Coor Le, stated that the estimated cost for relocating the village of A Dieu is about 33 billion dongs. He noted that the chosen site is suitable, and residents are ready to move. There is a hopeful expectation that the municipal government will approve the project and release emergency funds soon. Only once the relocation to CLung Gươl A Póoc occurs can the authorities and residents feel secure from the threat of landslides.
The need for reconstruction in A Dieu transcends mere compensation or physical building; it challenges our collective responsibility and humanity in the face of natural disasters. As the rain season of 2026 approaches, the scars of A Dieu’s hillside serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of delays in action. Every day lost potentially puts lives in jeopardy.
