Ducks’ McTavish Rebounds Strongly After Healthy Scratch Struggle

Mason McTavish of the Anaheim Ducks has found his rhythm after a challenging stretch. The young forward scored a crucial goal in the Ducks’ 5-3 victory against the Vancouver Canucks. With this goal, McTavish broke a 14-game scoring drought.

McTavish’s Scoring Struggles

Since January 19, McTavish had been unable to find the back of the net. The 23-year-old has recorded 14 goals and 20 assists over 64 games this season. This performance is significantly below his previous season total of 52 points, achieved during the 2024-25 NHL season.

Reflecting on his recent challenges, McTavish acknowledged, “It’s been pretty hard. It’s been a tough couple of weeks, so it’s nice to get that goal for sure.” His performance improved following a brief period as a healthy scratch—a first in his career.

The Game-Winning Goal

In the game against Vancouver, McTavish scored during a pivotal moment. The score was tied 3-3 early in the third period when he moved into Canucks territory. After a neat exchange with defenceman Jackson LaCombe, McTavish unleashed a powerful shot from the faceoff dot, putting the Ducks ahead 4-3.

Ducks head coach Joel Quenneville remarked on McTavish’s game, saying, “It was a great shot, and I thought he had a good game overall. That line was effective.” Troy Terry sealed the game with an empty-net goal just five seconds before the end, but McTavish’s goal was the one that secured the victory.

Ducks’ Current Standing

With this win, the Ducks improved to a record of 40-27-4. They currently lead the Pacific Division with a five-point margin over the Edmonton Oilers.

Carlsson’s Integration

  • John Carlson had a standout performance with three assists.
  • This marks his most significant contribution since joining the Ducks.
  • The veteran defenseman had been recovering from a lower-body injury before the trade.
  • He was acquired from the Washington Capitals on March 6.

Carlson expressed his comfort within the team, stating, “It’s a great group of guys that have welcomed me.”

Pettersson’s Milestones

For the Canucks, star player Elias Pettersson reached notable career milestones. He recorded his 300th assist and 500th point in the NHL during this game. Pettersson commented, “It’s cool. Cool numbers to hit. Very honoured.”

This match showcased not only McTavish’s resurgence but also the encouraging team dynamics within the Ducks as they strive for success in the season.
