RCMP Investigates Corruption at Calgary City Hall, Executes Warrants on Ex-Mayor and Councillors

Sources close to the situation reveal that multiple search warrants were carried out last week, impacting various properties, including a local business. The investigation reportedly centers around claims of corruption linked to a business entity.

• Jyoti Gondek: Former Mayor of Calgary, whose home was searched and cell phone seized.
• Sean Chu: Former Calgary councillor, with his residence also subject to a search.
• Andre Chabot: Current councillor from Ward 10, experienced a similar search of his home and cellphone acquisition.

Statements from the Involved Parties

Jyoti Gondek expressed her cooperation with the investigation, stating, “I have been fully co-operative and respect the legal process.” However, she noted the invasiveness of the situation and indicated that her legal team would closely review the search’s justification.

In a statement from Sean Chu’s attorney, Shamsher Kothari, it was emphasized that no charges have been filed, and Chu remains cooperative, desiring an expedient conclusion to the investigation.

Andre Chabot reported being taken aback by the search warrant execution. He mentioned that he had no prior indication of the RCMP’s intentions and was prepared to provide his devices voluntarily. Chabot also asserted his willingness to cooperate fully, asserting he had “nothing to hide.”

Law Enforcement’s Role

Calgary Police Service originally handled complaints related to this matter but transferred the investigation to the RCMP to maintain the integrity of the process. Emma Poole, a spokesperson for the Calgary Police, confirmed that a related complaint had been received in October 2025, which led to the referral.
