Montréal Airport’s New Terminal Opening Summer 2023

Montréal Metropolitan Airport is set to unveil its new terminal on June 15, 2023. This facility will initially service Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation, catering to various Canadian destinations. Future partnerships with additional airlines are anticipated.
Benefits of the New Terminal
The new terminal aims to enhance travel options for Greater Montreal residents. Yanic Roy, President and CEO of MET, stated that this development will enable airlines to utilize increased airport capacity in the region. This growth is pivotal for improving local air travel.
Key Features of the Terminal
Spanning 21,000 square meters, the terminal will feature:
- Nine boarding gates
- A spacious lounge accommodating up to 900 passengers
- Three drop-off lanes for efficient passenger access
The terminal’s construction began in August 2023, and its initial opening was originally planned for 2024 but experienced delays.
A Rich History and Future Aspirations
Opened in 1927, the airport has a storied past as Canada’s oldest airport. It transitioned from being the city’s main aviation hub in 1940, when commercial services moved to Dorval to support wartime efforts. Now, as MET, it aims for a new identity focused on direct flights via quieter, fuel-efficient aircraft.
Enhanced Accessibility
The strategic location of the new terminal is poised to improve access for over three million Quebec residents. It provides a vital connection for those living in Montreal, the Montérégie region, and the Eastern Townships.
Shopping and Dining Options
The new terminal will embrace local culture by featuring entirely Quebec-based retail and dining options. Selected establishments include:
- Baton Rouge restaurant
- Café Dépôt
- A convenience and travel store
Charles Roberge, President and CEO of Terminal YHU, emphasized that the project redefines travel in Montreal. The design and collaboration with several key stakeholders aim to ensure a seamless experience for passengers.
