Curry Set to Join Warriors in Play-In Tournament if Fit – Kerr

Stephen Curry may join the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament if his right knee heals adequately. Coach Steve Kerr indicated that the team would not hold Curry out of action without securing a playoff spot. This statement was made ahead of the Warriors’ game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Curry’s Knee Injury Status

On the eve of the game, Curry was expected to participate in practice. However, the medical staff delayed his return. Kerr explained that the process involves ongoing rehabilitation and testing. He noted that this postponement was merely a matter of a day or two.

Warriors’ Position in the Western Conference

Currently, the Warriors sit in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. If they maintain this position, they must win two away games to qualify for the playoffs. The team’s performance has significantly declined during Curry’s absence, with a record of 10 wins and 22 losses without him. This includes a troubling stretch of just one victory in eight games.

Importance of Curry’s Return

Kerr emphasized that the Warriors are not merely “chasing a play-in berth.” They are committed to making the playoffs as long as Curry is fit to play. Curry, who leads the team with an average of 27.2 points per game, has been sidelined due to patella-femoral pain syndrome and bone bruising in his knee since January 30.

  • Team Record with Curry: 23-16
  • Team Record without Curry: 10-22
  • Current Standings: 10th in Western Conference
  • Playoff Requirement: Win two road games

While Kerr is optimistic, he also stated that if there’s any risk of further damage to Curry’s knee, he won’t play. The team had hoped for Curry’s return right after the All-Star break, but he also missed participating in the All-Star Game this year.

The Road Ahead

As the Warriors complete their six-game road trip, they will reassess Curry’s condition upon returning home. Kerr mentioned that Curry is eager to return to the court, highlighting the importance of his health and performance for the team’s aspirations.
