Bruins Secure James Hagens for AHL Amateur Tryout Agreement

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has announced the signing of forward James Hagens to an AHL amateur tryout agreement (ATO). This decision marks an exciting step in Hagens’ career as he joins the organization for further development.

James Hagens will practice with the Providence Bruins at Amica Mutual Pavilion on March 24 at 10:15 a.m. Sweeney expressed enthusiasm about Hagens’ potential and the opportunity for him to gain experience at the professional level.

Achievements in College and Beyond

In his two seasons at Boston College (2024-2026), Hagens played 71 games, netting 34 goals and providing 50 assists for a total of 84 points. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team after achieving 37 points during the 2024-25 season.

Junior Career and International Success

Before his collegiate journey, Hagens spent two years with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP). Here, he scored 72 goals and made 115 assists, ranking fifth in program history with 187 points.

Hagens has had significant international experience, representing the U.S. in two IIHF World Junior Championships (2025, 2026) and two IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championships (2023, 2024). He won gold medals at both the 2025 World Juniors and the 2023 U-18 tournaments.

Record-Breaking Performance

In 2024, Hagens set a record at the IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championship, scoring 22 points in a single tournament. His exceptional skills earned him the tournament MVP honors and contributed to the United States securing silver.
