Heavy Rain Triggers Widespread Flooding and Damage Across Oahu

Heavy rain across Oahu has triggered widespread flooding and significant damage as a Kona low moves over Hawaii. The situation has prompted First Alert Weather Days to be declared through Sunday.

Evacuation Orders Issued

The city has enacted evacuation orders for residents in the Waialua and Haleiwa areas. This decision was made due to the risk of “extremely dangerous flooding” and rising water levels at the Wahiawa Dam.

Severe Flooding Reports

Flooding was reported throughout the island, notably from Kahaluu in Windward Oahu to Kaimuki. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel where possible.

Landslides and Road Hazards

  • A landslide occurred in Kaneohe, around Kalanianaole and Pali highways.
  • Rockfalls were observed on Kamehameha Highway, north of Kipapa Bridge in Mililani.

The city has issued warnings regarding hazardous road conditions. Residents are advised to treat all malfunctioning traffic signals as four-way stops.

Emergency Response

In case of emergencies, residents should call 911 immediately. For non-emergency inquiries, residents are requested to refrain from calling 911 to keep lines available for those in urgent need.

As the weather continues to develop, El-Balad will provide updates on the situation and ongoing safety measures. Stay informed and safe during this severe weather event.
