Oilers GM Calls Draisaitl Injury a Potential Blessing in Disguise

Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman addressed Leon Draisaitl’s recent injury and its potential implications. Draisaitl will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a lower-body injury. However, Bowman suggested this absence could turn into a “blessing in disguise” for the team.
Draisaitl’s Injury and Playoff Readiness
Bowman, speaking during the NHL GMs’ meetings, highlighted that Draisaitl’s rest could benefit his performance in the upcoming playoffs. “He’ll be rested and he’ll be fresh for the playoffs,” Bowman stated. This is not the first time Draisaitl has faced injury issues late in the season. He missed significant game time in the previous season as well, sitting out 11 of the final 14 games.
Playoff Performance History
In the last playoff run, Draisaitl showcased his skills by finishing tied for the league lead with 33 points, consisting of 11 goals and 22 assists, in just 22 games. The Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final but ultimately fell to the Florida Panthers for the second consecutive year.
Team Standing and Playoff Outlook
Draisaitl missed his first game this season on Tuesday during a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. The Oilers currently have 77 points, placing them tied for first in the Pacific Division with the Anaheim Ducks, who have two games in hand. The team maintains a slender six-point lead over the Los Angeles Kings and Seattle Kraken, who are vying for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Draisaitl’s Season Performance
This season, Draisaitl stands fourth in the NHL, with an impressive tally of 97 points, including 35 goals and 62 assists. Bowman is optimistic about Draisaitl’s recovery, stating, “If everything goes as scheduled, the expectation is it’ll just be until the end of the regular season.” He noted that the team’s performance in the recent match against San Jose was promising, with 13 players contributing at least one point and five different goal-scorers.
