Amy Hunt Advocates for Female Athletes at 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships

Amy Hunt’s remarkable journey as a female athlete reflects her resilience and ambition, especially as she advocates for female athletes. She gained recognition for breaking the under-18 200m world record in 2019, running an impressive 22.42 seconds. Six years later, she claimed a silver medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, demonstrating her exceptional talent and dedication.
A Struggle with Injuries
Between her record-breaking performance and her recent success, Hunt faced significant challenges. Injuries, including a ruptured quadriceps in 2022, disrupted her early senior career. Balancing her sporting ambitions with academic responsibilities also presented difficulties.
Recent Performance Highlights
Despite setbacks, Hunt’s performance continued to improve. Last summer, she clocked a personal best of 22.08 seconds in Japan. Additionally, she achieved new bests in the 60m and 100m events. Her current coach, Marco Airale, trains her in Padova, Italy, where she is focused on enhancing her skills.
Goals for the Future
- Improve on her fifth-place finish at the last World Indoor Championships
- Enhance her performance in the 60m event, despite it being her least favorite
- Contend for the 400m title and aim for multiple medals at the 2028 Olympics
Standing at 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 meters), Hunt notes that her height poses challenges in the 60m races but helps her in longer distances. Her aspirations include not just medals but also inspiring young athletes.
Advocacy for Education and Confidence
Apart from her athletic goals, Hunt is committed to encouraging young female athletes to pursue higher education. She plans to establish a scholarship program, similar to one created by British rapper Stormzy, to support black students at Cambridge. She believes conversations about education and confidence can empower more women and girls in sports.
“It’s essential to not take the easy way out,” Hunt states. She emphasizes the importance of striving for excellence daily and inspiring others. Her advocacy aims to create pathways for future generations of female athletes.
