Israel Confirms ‘Limited’ Ground Operations Underway in Lebanon
Hezbollah has confirmed its recent military actions against Israel, targeting both the border town of Kiryat Shmona and the city of Nahariya. This escalation in conflict has prompted Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service to respond. They reported treating one individual in Nahariya for moderate injuries caused by a rocket strike, which ignited a significant fire. Additionally, six other individuals were treated for smoke inhalation.
Details of the Cross-Border Attack
During the night, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for shelling an Israeli military site located in Aitaroun, a Lebanese town. The militant group also launched rockets aimed at gatherings of Israeli forces in Margaliot and Yuval. Lebanese media reported ongoing clashes between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops in the border regions, particularly near towns like Khiam, Aadaysit, Marjayoun, and Taybeh.
Casualties from Israeli Air Strikes
The situation intensified as Israel launched air strikes resulting in multiple casualties. According to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), these strikes claimed the lives of four individuals, including two children, in Qantara, situated just west of Taybeh. Separate air strikes in Kfar Sir led to three additional deaths, with one victim perishing in a home and two paramedics killed during a subsequent strike.
- Location of Strikes: Qantara, Kfar Sir, Yater (south-west)
- Fatalities Reported:
- Four people in Qantara
- Three people in Kfar Sir
- Two paramedics in Kfar Sir
- One paramedic in Yater
Allegations and Responses
The ongoing hostilities have raised significant humanitarian concerns. Following the tragic death of a dozen medical professionals at a Hezbollah-linked primary healthcare center, the Lebanese health ministry accused Israel of breaching international law by targeting ambulance crews during their rescue efforts. In response, the Israeli military charged that Hezbollah was misusing ambulances for military operations, a claim that the health ministry has strongly denied.
This escalation marks a critical point in the ongoing conflict, prompting fears of an extended military engagement between the two sides.
