Duke tops men’s seeds; Miami (Ohio) clinches No. 11 spot in March Madness

Duke has secured the top overall men’s seed for this year’s March Madness, setting the stage for a highly anticipated tournament. This announcement was made during the Selection Sunday event, alongside other notable seeds, including Arizona, Michigan, and Florida. All four of these teams hope to replicate their impressive performance from the previous season when they all reached the Final Four.
Michigan’s Ranking and Miami (Ohio) Surprise
Michigan slipped to the third overall seed after their recent loss to Purdue, a decision confirmed by tournament selection chair Keith Gill. Meanwhile, Miami (Ohio) clinched a notable 11th seed, edging into the tournament with a remarkable 31-1 record, despite a low strength of schedule ranking at 339. They will play against SMU in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio, which is close to their home turf.
Tournament Details
The tournament kicks off on Tuesday with several play-in games, featuring other bubble teams such as Texas and North Carolina State. The national champion will be decided at the Final Four in Indianapolis on April 6.
Teams Left Out and Conference Representation
Among the notable omissions from the tournament field are San Diego State, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Auburn. Despite having a challenging schedule, the Auburn Tigers, who suffered 16 losses, did not make the cut. Their former coach Bruce Pearl voiced his disappointment, emphasizing the difficulty of their competition.
