Laurent Brossoit Returns to NHL with First Sharks Start in Two Years

Laurent Brossoit is set to make a significant comeback in the NHL as he takes the ice for the San Jose Sharks. This moment marks not only his first game with the Sharks but also his first start in the league in nearly two years. The 32-year-old goaltender last played as a starter on April 18, 2024, while with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Return to the NHL
Brossoit was recently called up to the Sharks following an injury to Yaroslav Askarov. This opportunity allows him to demonstrate his skills at the NHL level once again. He spent the entire 2024-25 season sidelined due to knee and hip issues. After undergoing hip surgery in 2022 and multiple knee procedures, Brossoit has finally regained his health.
Performance in the AHL
While nursing his injuries, Brossoit played for the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. He performed impressively with an 11-2-1 record, .915 save percentage, and a 2.48 goals-against average. His strong showing in the AHL paved the way for his return to the NHL.
Career Overview
Born in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Brossoit has amassed 140 games of NHL experience. He has played for several teams, including:
- Edmonton Oilers
- Winnipeg Jets
- Vegas Golden Knights
- Chicago Blackhawks (did not play in any games)
Throughout his decade-long NHL career, he has maintained a .911 save percentage and a 2.64 goals-against average. Notably, during the 2022-23 season, he contributed to the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup victory, making eight starts with a 5-2-0 record.
Looking Ahead
Brossoit’s return to the ice is eagerly anticipated by Sharks fans. With a solid performance in the AHL and previous NHL experience, he aims to establish himself as a reliable goaltender for the team in the coming games.
