Mongolia to Import 12.2 Million Fresh Flowers in 2025

Mongolia is set to import 12.2 million fresh flowers by 2025. This surge in imports stems from rising demand, particularly around International Women’s Day.
Current Import Trends and Regulations
The demand for flowers peaks annually during March due to the celebration of International Women’s Day. In early 2026, approximately one million flowers were imported during January and February. These flowers were valued at over 350,000 US dollars.
Health and Safety Assurances
There have been concerns regarding the safety of imported flowers. Some reports suggest that these flowers could pose health risks. To address these concerns, officials from customs have articulated strict regulations. All imported fresh flowers and ornamental plants must have a phytosanitary certificate from the exporting country. Additionally, these flowers undergo thorough laboratory testing at customs.
Only flowers that pass this rigorous inspection receive import certificates, confirming their safety and the legitimacy of their origin. Consumers are encouraged to request these certificates while shopping.
Sources of Imported Flowers
Mongolia relies heavily on imports to satisfy its flower demand. The majority, approximately 97.5 percent, of flowers sold in Mongolia originate from China. The Netherlands contributes around 2.0 percent of the supply. Smaller quantities are also imported from countries such as Ecuador and South Korea.
Global Flower Export Trends
Interestingly, Türkiye has positioned itself as a significant player in the floral export market. Recently, it exported around 80 million flowers to 35 countries ahead of International Women’s Day, with the Netherlands and the UK being primary destinations.
As Mongolia prepares for increased flower imports, adherence to safety protocols and understanding the origins of these products will remain crucial for consumer confidence.
