PM Modi Launches Delhi’s First ‘Ring Metro’ in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated two significant corridors of the Delhi Metro, marking a milestone with the launch of the country’s first ‘Ring Metro.’ This development highlights efforts to enhance urban mobility in the capital.

Overview of the New Corridors

The two corridors launched include the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur on the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park on the Magenta Line.

Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur Corridor

  • Total Length: 12.3 kilometers
  • Stations: Eight elevated stations, including Majlis Park, Burari, and Maujpur-Babarpur.
  • Expansion: This extension increases the Pink Line’s total length to approximately 71.56 kilometers.
  • Notable Features: The corridor includes a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that accommodates both metro tracks and a roadway.

Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park Corridor

  • Total Length: 9.9 kilometers
  • Stations: Seven stations, which include Deepali Chowk and Majlis Park.
  • Height: Parts of this corridor reach an elevation of approximately 28.36 meters, making it one of the highest segments of the metro system.
  • Overall Length: The Magenta Line now extends to around 49 kilometers.

Future Developments in the Delhi Metro

In addition to launching the new corridors, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation for three additional corridors as part of Phase-V (A) of the Delhi Metro expansion plan.

Details of the Upcoming Corridors

  • Central Vista Corridor: This 9.913-kilometer underground route will connect Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, featuring key stops like Shivaji Stadium and India Gate.
  • Aerocity to Terminal 1 Extension: A 2.263-kilometer underground segment that will introduce one new station.
  • Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj Extension: This elevated corridor, measuring 3.9 kilometers, will have stations at Sarita Vihar Depot and Kalindi Kunj.

These new projects aim to enhance connectivity, particularly for passengers traveling from Noida and provide easier access to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
