Man Runs 7 Marathons in a Week to Honor Late Sister

A remarkable journey is underway as Harry McTaggart prepares to run seven marathons in seven days. This challenge aims to honor the memory of his late sister, Monica, who passed away from leukaemia. The event will take place from March 23 to March 29, covering a distance of 309 kilometers.
Harry’s Tribute to His Sister
At just 27 years old, Harry is set to begin his running route from his family home in Dumbarton to Tiree and back. This route holds special significance for the family, as Tiree was a cherished holiday destination. Harry shared fond memories of the island, noting, “This journey retraces the path we took many times on family holidays, only this time by foot.”
Monica’s Battle with Leukaemia
Monica McTaggart lost her battle with leukaemia on March 12, 2016, after receiving care from the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Harry expressed gratitude for the support they received during her illness, stating, “Anyone who has encountered the Beatson will know the tremendous care they offer.”
Fundraising Goals and Impact
Harry’s endeavor is also a fundraising effort. So far, he has raised over £7,000, with proceeds going to two charities: the Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre and the Beatson Cancer Charity. Both organizations are essential in advancing leukaemia research and treatment.

Harry emphasized the importance of supporting research initiatives that may offer future cures. He remarked, “Supporting research for advancements in leukaemia treatment I hope, one day, will offer cure for others.”
Community Support and Acknowledgments
Community Fundraiser Chloe Coghill from the Beatson Cancer Charity praised Harry’s efforts. She stated, “Harry’s run is a powerful way to remember his sister Monica and to honor the care she received at The Beatson.” The funds raised will aid in providing ongoing care and support for patients and families associated with the charity.
Harry expressed that any support during his journey would be welcomed, whether through donations, companionship on the run, or well-wishes. His initiative not only commemorates his sister but also contributes to a larger cause against leukaemia, aiming to provide hope for many families facing similar battles.
