Here are the latest developments from around the globe that you may have missed while sleeping.
Israel Intensifies Strikes on Tehran Amid Ongoing Conflict
The Israeli military announced on Monday that it is continuing large-scale strikes in Tehran. These operations target what they describe as the “Iranian terrorist regime.”
According to the Red Crescent, the death toll from the recent hostilities has risen to 555 since the outbreak of the war on Saturday. The casualties include:
- 35 individuals in the southern province of Fars
- 27 in the northwest region within two days
- At least three in Sanandaj, west of Iran
Additionally, the central province of Yazd has also been affected, according to Iranian officials. The conflict has escalated beyond Iran, with Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon on Sunday, a group allied with Tehran.
Escalating Violence in Ukraine
In Ukraine, Russian strikes have resulted in at least five deaths across various regions. Authorities reported that multiple areas were hit overnight from Sunday to Monday.
In Kramatorsk, a city near the frontline, three fatalities were confirmed early Monday, according to Oleksandr Gontcharenko, the city’s military administration head. The Russian invasion has now entered its fifth year, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts led by Washington.
Mark Carney’s Visit to India Amid Diplomatic Tensions
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is currently in India for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. This comes in light of new allegations linking the Indian government to the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.
During his trip, Carney has extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Canada. This visit highlights the importance of the relationship between Canada and India, a country with a population of 1.45 billion.
As these significant events unfold, the geopolitical landscape continues to shift dramatically.
