Cillian Murphy Addresses Voldemort Casting Rumors for Harry Potter Series

Cillian Murphy has firmly dismissed the rumors surrounding his potential casting as Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The speculation gained traction after Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed the dark wizard in the original films, appeared to affirm that Murphy’s role was already confirmed.
Cillian Murphy Addresses Voldemort Casting Rumors
In a viral TikTok clip from January shared by Let’s Talk Film, Fiennes remarked, “I’m told [my shoes] are already filled, aren’t they? I think Cillian Murphy is very good. A very good choice.” However, in a recent interview with The Times, Murphy was clear in his denial, stating, “I’m categorically not. Can you make that the headline?”
Harry Potter Series Details
The Harry Potter series is set to premiere next year, with several actors already confirmed for key roles. The newcomers include:
- Dominic McLaughlin
- Alastair Stout
- Arabella Stanton
They will portray the central trio of children. The adult cast features notable actors such as Janet McTeer, John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Paul Whitehouse, Johnny Flynn, Warwick Davis, and Paapa Essiedu.
Controversy Surrounding the Series
Murphy’s comments come amidst a backdrop of controversy regarding the series. Some viewers have planned a boycott due to Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling’s contentious views on transgender rights. Rowling, who is also an executive producer for the series, has been labeled one of the UK’s most prominent critics of trans rights and has financially supported organizations working against legal protections for transgender individuals.
Looking Ahead: Peaky Blinders Film
In the same interview, Murphy touched upon the eagerly anticipated Peaky Blinders film, where he reprises his role as Tommy Shelby. He reflected on the timeline of the series, saying, “I was 35 when we started filming the Peaky Blinders TV series and 48 when we made the film. I’ve played Tommy for over a quarter of my life.”
Murphy praised the show’s evolution, noting its gradual buildup in popularity: “It wasn’t an instant hit. People thought that it was OK but its second series was when it really clicked.”
Upcoming Release Dates
The Peaky Blinders film, titled “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man,” is set to be released in cinemas on March 6 and will be available on Netflix starting March 20.
