Angela Rippon Supports Dartmoor Horse Charity in New TV Campaign

Angela Rippon, the renowned broadcaster, is featuring in a national television campaign to support The Mare and Foal Sanctuary. This new advert, scheduled to run throughout October on ITV, Sky, and Channel 4, was shot at the charity’s Moorland Rescue Facility located in Yelverton, Dartmoor. The advertisement highlights recently rescued ponies, drawing attention to the critical work the charity undertakes.

Mission of The Mare and Foal Sanctuary

Established in Devon, The Mare and Foal Sanctuary serves communities across the South West of England. It collaborates with national welfare organizations to ensure the well-being of horses and ponies. Currently, the sanctuary cares for nearly 600 horses, many of whom have faced abandonment, neglect, or abuse.

The Patron’s Passion

Angela Rippon has been a patron of The Mare and Foal Sanctuary since 2018. Growing up in Devon, her love for horses flourished as she watched them on Dartmoor. Although she didn’t start riding until her 30s, Rippon fondly recalls the calming escape riding provided from her demanding broadcasting career.

She has a special bond with her horse, Katie, a thoroughbred mare, which she describes as a source of serenity. As she puts it, “I would come home to Devon, saddle her up, and go out onto Dartmoor. No phones, no noise, just the countryside and the ponies.” Although Rippon no longer rides, she continues to enjoy being in the company of horses, describing them as “majestic animals.”

Advocacy Against Animal Cruelty

In a short film accompanying the advert, Rippon passionately explains her motivation for supporting The Mare and Foal Sanctuary. She expresses her strong stance against animal cruelty, stating, “I can’t come to grips with… what must be going through someone’s head to be cruel.” Her commitment to the sanctuary reflects her desire to help ensure horses lead better lives.
