Mumford & Sons Electrify ‘SNL’ with ‘Rubber Band Man’ and ‘Here’

Mumford & Sons recently captivated audiences on Saturday Night Live (SNL) with two performances from their latest album, Prizefighter. This marked their fourth appearance on the iconic show, following their last performance in 2018. The band opened the night with “Rubber Band Man,” a song that features acclaimed Irish musician Hozier and was co-written by Brandi Carlile. Hozier, along with Aaron Dessner of The National, joined the band on stage for this lively performance.

Mumford & Sons’ New Album: Prizefighter

Before the album’s release, Marcus Mumford shared his excitement, calling Prizefighter his favorite album from the band so far. At 39 years old, he reflected on the band’s journey, stating, “It’s like we got to this stage in our careers where we’re comfortable in our skin now.” He emphasized that the album represents authenticity and a direct connection to their essence.

Collaborations and Production

Co-founder Ted Dwane, aged 41, acknowledged the significant role of Aaron Dessner in the album’s production. He noted, “Dessner, he just feels like a real ally.” The band has admired The National for a long time and appreciated working with Dessner since their previous album, Wilder Mind.

Memorable Performances on SNL

  • First Performance: “Rubber Band Man” featuring Hozier.
  • Second Performance: “Here,” the album’s opening track, featuring Chris Stapleton and Sierra Ferrell.

Prizefighter is the second album released by Mumford & Sons in less than a year. Their first, Rushmere, debuted in March and marked a new era as they adjusted to life as a trio following the departure of guitarist and banjoist Winston Marshall. His exit was influenced by political differences within the band.

Upcoming Tours

Mumford & Sons are set to tour Australia and New Zealand in April, followed by a North American leg starting in June. They will return to the United States in October, where they will headline the Bourbon & Beyond Festival in Louisville, Kentucky.
