Regional Celebrations Mark St David’s Day

March begins with the celebration of St David’s Day, a significant occasion marked by various events across the UK. Communities come together to honor this Welsh festival, which takes place annually on March 1.
St David’s Day Celebrations in Staffordshire
A special talk is scheduled for 14:00 at The Brampton Museum in Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire. Stuart Haywood, the chairman of The Stoke-on-Trent & District Welsh Society, will lead the discussion. His book, *The Welsh in North Staffordshire*, draws on extensive research into the migration of Welsh people during the Victorian era.
Haywood’s presentation will cover:
- The locations where Welsh migrants settled in North Staffordshire.
- The factors that influenced their decision to move.
- The formation of local communities.
Concert at Cradley Church
On the same day, residents of Herefordshire can enjoy a concert at Cradley Church, starting at 15:00. The event will feature performances by the Malvern Male Voice Choir and harpist Shelley Fairplay. Ticket prices are set at £18, which includes refreshments. Proceeds will benefit both Cradley Church and Cradley Village Hall.
Upcoming Concert in Shropshire
Additionally, a St David’s Day concert is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 7, from 19:00 to 21:30 at St Oswald’s Church in Oswestry, Shropshire. This concert will showcase the Fron Male Voice Choir alongside Lleisiau’r Afon, promising an evening of beautiful choral music.
These celebrations not only highlight Welsh culture but also strengthen community ties across different regions as they come together to commemorate St David’s Day.
