Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Recall Baby Formula: Essential Info for Consumers

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait have jointly announced a recall of baby formula products. This recall concerns items manufactured by Nutricia-Danone under the brands Aptamil and Bebelac.

Reason for Recall

The recall was initiated following a voluntary notification from Nutricia-Danone. The products in question may be contaminated with Cereulide, a substance resulting from Bacillus cereus bacteria. This contamination poses health risks to infants, and the SFDA noted that symptoms may appear within 30 minutes to six hours of consuming the affected products. Common symptoms include:

  • Nausea
  • Frequent vomiting
  • Abdominal pain

These symptoms generally last for up to 24 hours and are typically short-term.

Advice for Consumers

Authorities recommend that consumers immediately check their baby formula for the specified batch numbers. No illnesses linked to these products have yet been reported in Saudi Arabia or Kuwait. However, the need for caution is stressed, and consumers should dispose of any affected products without delay.

This recall serves as a precautionary measure, ensuring the health and safety of infants in both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Consumers are urged to stay informed and report any concerns to health authorities.
