Vodka-Forcing Partner Inflicts 100 Injuries, Sentenced to Jail

A Chester man has received a lengthy prison sentence for murdering his partner, who endured over 100 injuries during her time with him. Tony Devenport, aged 57, has been sentenced to at least 22 years for the death of 41-year-old Stephanie Blundell. The court revealed disturbing details about the circumstances surrounding her demise, which included significant physical and emotional abuse.

Background of Abuse

Devenport and Blundell lived together for nearly two years in Canal Street, Chester. During this period, Blundell was not allowed a house key, and Devenport controlled her bank account. Despite their shared struggles with alcoholism, including periods of sobriety, their relationship took a dark turn following a trip to Slovakia in May 2024, where they began drinking heavily.

Evidence presented at Chester Crown Court indicated that Devenport was physically abusive towards Blundell when intoxicated. Just ten days before her death, he was arrested on suspicion of assault but violated bail conditions by contacting her immediately after.

Final Days of Suffering

In the days leading up to her death, Blundell had no means to leave Devenport’s home and was confined to bed due to health complications, including acute pancreatitis and alcoholic ketoacidosis. The control exerted by Devenport was apparent; he provided her only with vodka and ice lollies as sustenance.

Justice Steyn stated that Blundell suffered repeated physical abuse at Devenport’s hands, including strangulation and severe beatings, leading to significant brain injuries. On July 20, 2025, she died from the cumulative effects of her injuries and chronic alcoholism.

The Aftermath and Sentencing

During sentencing, Justice Steyn condemned Devenport’s actions, emphasizing the brutal nature of the assaults he inflicted on Blundell. She described Blundell as a “compassionate, kind-hearted, and courageous” individual and expressed sorrow for her painful death.

Philip Blundell, Stephanie’s father, discovered her body and described the encounter as a haunting experience. He spoke of his grief over her death in isolation, “with nobody to comfort her.” In a heartfelt tribute, her family remembered her as a “radiant soul” with immense capacity for love and warmth.

Legal and Community Response

Detective Inspector Andrea Price from Cheshire Constabulary also acknowledged the weight of the case, expressing hope that justice would provide some solace to Blundell’s family. “While no sentence can ever bring Stephanie back, today marks a significant step for justice,” she stated.

The tragic case highlights issues of domestic abuse and the dangers of controlling relationships, bringing attention to the urgent need for support systems for victims. As community discussions continue, both friends and family remember Stephanie for her kind spirit and lasting positive impact on those around her.
