Furnace Issue Forces Closure of Cobequid Community Health Centre

The Cobequid Community Health Centre in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, is currently closed due to safety concerns linked to its furnace. The closure began on Thursday morning after smoke and fuel were released from the heating system.

Incident Details

Emergency services were alerted to the situation at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Thursday. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency dispatched crews to the facility. District Chief Drew MacCulloch reported no actual fire at the scene.

  • Power and fuel to the furnace were shut off.
  • The affected area was thoroughly ventilated to clear smoke.
  • A fuel leak was detected, causing a noticeable smell in parts of the building.

Patient Advisory

Nova Scotia Health has issued an advisory to patients, staff, and the local community to avoid the health centre until further notice. Those with specific appointments have been provided alternative options:

  • Patients with blood collection appointments are advised to reschedule or visit the Bayers Road clinic at the original appointment time.
