Snow and Rain Expected Nationwide on 24th: Will Wildfires Subside?

As South Korea faces ongoing drought conditions linked to large wildfires, expectations for snowfall and rain are rising. From the early hours of the 24th, precipitation is forecasted to spread nationwide.

Weather Forecast for 24th: Rain and Snow Across the Country

The precipitation will begin in Jeju and extend to other regions during the morning. Notably, the eastern parts of Gangwon and the southern regions are predicted to experience continued rain or snow through Wednesday.

  • Maximum rainfall in Jeju: 80 mm
  • Southern regions: up to 40 mm
  • Central regions: 5 to 10 mm

Areas with lower temperatures can expect snowfall accumulation. Specifically, the inland regions of Yeongnam may see over 10 cm of heavy, wet snow, with potential snowfall rates reaching 1 to 3 cm per hour. Other areas are likely to experience 1 to 5 cm of snow accumulation.

  • Seoul: Low of -1°C, High of 5°C
  • Daejeon: Low of 0°C, High of 5°C
  • Gwangju and Daegu: Low of 1°C, High of 8°C

Temperatures are expected to rise starting Wednesday afternoon, providing some relief from the cold. The weather authorities have advised the public to manage health considerations carefully due to significant temperature fluctuations. They also emphasized the need for caution regarding potential traffic disruptions caused by snow and rain.

As the precipitation arrives, hopes are that it will help mitigate the ongoing wildfire risks across the country.
