Real Toys at Toronto Auto Show Ignite Childlike Wonder in Everyone
The Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto has captured the imagination of attendees with two spectacular life-sized creations designed to ignite childlike wonder. One of the highlights is a remarkable pink Cadillac made entirely from Lego bricks, while the other features a unique Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Life-Sized Lego Cadillac
The Lego Cadillac, created by a team of 17 at Lego’s plant in Czechia, is not just a model but a functional vehicle. The grand build was inspired by one of Elvis Presley’s classic pink Cadillacs, specifically the 1954 Fleetwood Sixty Special.
Construction Details
- Bricks Used: The car comprises 418,556 Lego pieces, with over 123,000 being pink bricks.
- Scale: Initially designed on a 28:1 scale before being built as a life-size vehicle.
- Power: It is powered by a 17-kilowatt electric motor with a top speed of 20 km/h.
- Dimensions: The car measures more than five meters in length and weighs over two tonnes.
The creation required intensive work from June to November 2025 to be ready for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas, where it transported podium finishers Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and George Russell.
Unique Features
The Cadillac features a steel ladder-frame chassis and includes real wooden and metal components for safety. The trunk even opens using a special Lego key, showcasing Lego’s playful creativity.
Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz CLA
Alongside the Lego creation stands the Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz CLA. Created by designer Craig Callum, this toy vehicle is sculpted from a solid block of heavy foam, designed to look like the real car.
Design Inspiration
This model was conceptualized in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. Callum noted that the design team aimed to rekindle the imaginative spirit of childhood in this creation. It serves as a testament to how toy cars can inspire dreams of adventure and creativity.
Production Process
- Scale: It is a 64:1 scale model designed for display.
- Manufacturing: The project utilized advanced 3D printing techniques.
The impressive display at the Toronto Auto Show emphasizes the blend of creativity and engineering in toy design. Both the Lego Cadillac and the Hot Wheels CLA stand as symbols of the joy that automobiles can bring, appealing to both children and adults alike.
