Ex-Footballer Among Four Charged with Attempted Murder in Shooting

A former footballer, Patrick Lacey, has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident in Huyton that left a man severely injured. The incident occurred on November 28, when a man in his 20s was shot twice in the leg around 10:20 PM on Radway Road.

Details of the Incident

Witnesses reported that two men on a Sur-ron bike were involved in the shooting. The victim was swiftly transported to a hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Charges Filed

Lacey, aged 32, from Crosby, has been charged alongside three other individuals:

  • John Aaron Jones, 35, of Allerton
  • John George Patrick Hughes, 31, currently without fixed address
  • Bernard Flynn, 61, from Bootle

All four men face multiple charges, including:

  • Attempted murder
  • Conspiracy to murder
  • Possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life
  • Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH)
  • Conspiracy to cause GBH

Law Enforcement Actions

On February 19, a series of coordinated warrants were executed across the Knowsley, Sefton, and Liverpool areas, leading to the arrests. The accused are set to appear at the Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, and St Helens Adult Remand Court.
