Jeff Skinner Clears Waivers; Two Additional Players Waived

Jeff Skinner has officially cleared waivers and is now available to pursue opportunities with other teams. The San Jose Sharks placed the veteran forward on waivers on Monday for the purpose of contract termination. This decision, announced by the team on Tuesday, was described as mutual.
At 33 years old, Skinner signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Sharks as a free agent. This season, he has recorded six goals and 13 points across 32 games, although he faced setbacks due to a lower-body injury in November. Sharks General Manager Mike Grier expressed gratitude for Skinner’s time with the organization, wishing him well in future endeavors.
Skinner’s Career Highlights
Jeff Skinner won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie while playing for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2011. He has managed to net at least 30 goals in six different seasons. However, his offensive production has seen a decline in recent years, leading to stints with the Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and now the Sharks.
Additional Waivers on Tuesday
On the same day, two other players were also placed on waivers:
- Jacob MacDonald – Colorado Avalanche
- Mitchell Gibson – Washington Capitals
Mitchell Gibson’s Profile

His overall AHL stats reflect a 9-4-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and one shutout in 15 games.
Jacob MacDonald’s Career
Jacob MacDonald has predominantly served as a depth defenceman for the Avalanche. His last NHL appearances were with the Sharks in the 2023-24 season. In a total of 135 career NHL games, he has recorded 10 goals and 17 assists, accumulating 27 points.
