Dylan Deschamps Advances to Big Air Final in Ski Acrobatics

Dylan Deschamps is set to represent Canada in the Big Air Final of Ski Acrobatics at the Milan-Cortina Olympics. The 23-year-old from Quebec scored 175.5 points, finishing ninth in the qualifiers.

Dylan Deschamps’ Evaluation of Judges’ Scores

Deschamps expressed his disappointment with the judging during the competition. He believes the judges favored older maneuvers over more contemporary ones. “Honestly, it was a bit frustrating. I think the judges were mistaken,” he said. “They rated moves that were popular 10 to 12 years ago as if they were new.”

Performance Analysis

The Canadian skier felt that his competitors, who performed outdated tricks, were unfairly ranked higher. Deschamps noted, “It doesn’t make sense to be ranked behind skiers finishing 20th in World Cups.” He intends to perform high-difficulty maneuvers in the final, stating, “I am here to compete and give my best. If I land my tricks, they won’t be able to argue with that!”

Other Competitors

Another Canadian, Evan McEachran, did not qualify for the finals. He struggled to land his first two jumps and opted for an easier trick in his third attempt, finishing 28th overall. McEachran commented, “The Big Air for me is about having fun. The level is incredibly high now, especially with athletes like Dylan competing.” His performance in slopestyle also weighed on him, where he finished 16th.

Finals Setup

The top twelve athletes will compete in the Big Air Final, scheduled for Tuesday. The qualifiers saw American skater Mac Forehand in first place with 183.0 points, closely followed by Austria’s Matej Svancer and Norway’s reigning Olympic champion Birk Ruud, who finished with 181.0 points.

Conclusion

The Big Air event is making its second Olympic appearance, and the competition promises to be thrilling. With Deschamps aiming for a high-impact performance, the finals are highly anticipated among spectators.
