Quebec Weather: Freezing Rain in South, Light Snow Elsewhere

Quebec is preparing for significant weather changes this week, with freezing rain and light snow affecting various regions. Residents in the south of the province, particularly, are advised to stay cautious as an alert has been issued for icy conditions.

Freezing Rain in Southern Quebec

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a yellow alert for freezing rain impacting multiple areas in southern Quebec. Forecasts indicate the possibility of up to 2 millimeters of freezing rain.

Weather Conditions by Region

  • Montréal: Expect intermittent light snow followed by rain mixed with freezing drizzle, with temperatures around 5°C.
  • Outaouais: Similar weather conditions as Montreal, with a mix of rain and freezing drizzle.
  • Québec City: Light snow in the morning may be accompanied by freezing drizzle, whereas rainfall is anticipated in the Estrie region.
  • Abitibi: Cloudy skies with light snow showers.
  • Est-du-Québec & Saguenay: Light snow accumulation of 2 to 4 centimeters is expected, with temperatures hovering around freezing.

Upcoming Weather Patterns

By Wednesday, snow is predicted to persist in the eastern regions of Quebec, with potential accumulations reaching up to 10 centimeters. In contrast, clearer skies are likely to appear in the south and central areas of the province.

While the mercury is expected to dip slightly, temperatures will still remain above seasonal averages, providing a mild winter setting.

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling, especially during peak hours, as roadway conditions may be challenging due to freezing rain.
