Anthony Davis Requires Goggles Indefinitely Post Right Eye Surgery

Anthony Davis has confirmed that he will be wearing protective goggles for the rest of his NBA career following surgery on his right eye. The Dallas Mavericks forward underwent the procedure to repair a detached retina, an injury he believes was caused by an accidental elbow from teammate Daniel Gafford during a game against the Atlanta Hawks on April 2.

Details of the Injury and Surgery

The incident occurred late in the first quarter of the game. After taking a hit to his face, Davis exited the court for stitches but returned to play. He performed impressively, scoring 34 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, and executing five blocks, including a game-winning shot.

However, it was not until the summer routine check-up that Davis discovered the severity of his eye injury. He stated, “I think when Gaff elbowed me, it kind of caused some problems in my eye,” leading to the necessary surgery.

Recovery and Future Plans

Following his surgery, Davis spent a considerable amount of time recovering. By late September, he resumed participation in 5-on-5 games at the Mavericks’ practice facility. He is expected to fully partake in the upcoming training camp, which starts Tuesday in Vancouver, Canada.

Mavericks Team Dynamics

Davis joined the Mavericks in February through a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played in nine games before suffering a left adductor strain that kept him sidelined for nearly six weeks. His primary focus this season is on team health and achieving their championship aspirations. “I think we have a good ball club,” Davis stated. “The biggest thing with our team is our health. Staying healthy is key,” he emphasized.

Current Condition

Despite the surgery, Davis feels positive about his eye health. He remarked that his eye feels great, although it appeared red during a recent press conference. He attributed the redness to prescribed eye drops. “The vision is back. I’m ready to go,” he confirmed.
