Switzerland has officially announced the leadership of its men’s ice hockey team for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Roman Josi, a defenseman for the Nashville Predators, will serve as the captain. Joining him as alternate captains are Kevin Fiala, Nico Hischier, Nino Niederreiter, and Andrea Glauser.
Roman Josi: Captain of the Swiss Team
Roman Josi is set to lead Switzerland in his second Olympic appearance, having previously competed in 2014 in Sochi. He has been a pivotal player for Switzerland, serving as team captain at the 2024 World Championship. His impressive career also includes nine seasons as captain of the Nashville Predators.
Currently, Josi has accumulated 11 goals, 28 assists, and 39 points in 45 games this season. Notably, he holds the record as the all-time leading Swiss scorer in the NHL.
Alternate Captains
- Kevin Fiala: The Los Angeles Kings winger has never held an alternate captaincy in his professional career but served as an alternate at the 2015 World Juniors. This season, he has 18 goals and 22 assists, totaling 40 points in 56 games.
- Nico Hischier: Serving as captain for the New Jersey Devils for the past six seasons, Hischier has a wealth of experience, including captaincy roles in the 2022 and 2025 World Championships. This season, he has achieved 19 goals and 23 assists, amassing 42 points in 57 games.
- Nino Niederreiter: Competing in his second Olympics, Niederreiter has offered significant contributions at several World Championships. He currently has 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 55 games with the Winnipeg Jets.
- Andrea Glauser: Glauser, who previously wore the ‘C’ before Hischier, has recorded 2 goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 28 games this season with Fribourg-Gotteron.
