Mirvish Productions Reveals 2026-27 Season: Four Musicals, Stratford Festival Transfer

Mirvish Productions has announced its 2026-27 season, titled “Operation Mirvish.” This lineup includes four musicals, a docu-concert, and an Agatha Christie mystery. The season will also feature a remount of “Salesman in China,” a play initially produced at the Stratford Festival in 2024.

Exciting Lineup for 2026-27 Season

The subscription season is set to launch in September with “Hell’s Kitchen.” This musical draws inspiration from the life of renowned artist Alicia Keys and serves as the only jukebox musical featured this season. According to producer Hannah Mirvish, the term “jukebox musical” can be limiting, suggesting that “Hell’s Kitchen” goes beyond typical conventions.

  • Hell’s Kitchen: Inspired by Alicia Keys’ life.
  • The Karate Kid: The Musical: A new adaptation of the classic 1984 film.
  • 13 Going on 30: The Musical: Following its Toronto run, it will move to London’s West End.
  • The Mousetrap: Agatha Christie’s iconic play, known as the world’s longest-running play.
  • Inside the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald: A docu-concert from Prince Edward Island.

Highlights of the Season

The current lineup showcases a blend of Canadian talent and U.K. imports, reflecting a shift away from American productions. This change is due, in part, to a rise in “elbows up” nationalism, where audiences are increasingly opting for local performances. However, Mirvish remains open to American collaborations, emphasizing that artists should not be defined by their political stakes.

Mirvish shared her excitement about “Salesman in China,” a play that chronicles Arthur Miller’s visit to China in 1983. The production has received rave reviews during its performances at Stratford and the National Arts Centre. The show is anticipated to be performed in both English and Mandarin, enhancing its accessibility.

Filling the Seats

With a capacity of approximately 48,400 seats per week across four theatres, maintaining strong attendance is crucial. Blockbuster musicals featuring recognizable hits help to support riskier productions, including original Canadian works. Mirvish believes in showcasing local talent on larger global platforms while ensuring a diverse theatrical offering.
