Three days into their holiday, Ashley experienced severe symptoms. These included stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and extreme fatigue. Concerns were raised regarding the hygiene standards at the resort on Sal Island.

The law firm Irwin Mitchell has been engaged to represent the families of four deceased individuals. They also represent over 1,500 other tourists who reported illness after visiting the destination. Irwin Mitchell stated that the case has been referred to the coroner for further investigation.
