Challenging Morning for Public Transport Users

Public transport users in the Greater Montreal area faced significant challenges on Monday morning. Disruptions affected all three major transit networks, most notably the closure of the yellow metro line due to water infiltration.

Major Disruptions in Public Transport

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) reported the stoppage of service between the Longueuil – Université-de-Sherbrooke and Berri-UQAM stations starting at 7:10 AM. Initially, service was expected to resume by 7:40 AM but was ultimately delayed until 9:40 AM.

Alternate Arrangements and Effects on Transit Services

To assist commuters, shuttle buses were arranged between Longueuil – Université-de-Sherbrooke and Papineau on the green line. Additionally, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) experienced delays beginning at 7:53 AM. Limited train cars were reported to be in service, but no specific reason was provided for these slowdowns.

  • Metro Closures: Yellow line shut down due to water infiltration.
  • Shuttle Services: Implemented between specific stations.
  • REM Delays: Limited service reported without a clear explanation.

Commuter Rail Interruptions

The commuter rail services were also impacted. The Vaudreuil/Hudson line halted operations at 8:10 AM following a mechanical issue. Train 18, departing from Hudson at 7:33 AM, reportedly broke down. The expected return to normal service was set for 8:45 AM according to exo, the train management authority.

No Severe Weather Conditions Reported

Interestingly, these disruptions were not attributed to any weather-related events. At Montreal-Trudeau Airport, morning temperatures were recorded at -19 degrees Celsius, with no significant precipitation anticipated throughout the day.
