Metro’s Yellow Line Closed Due to Water Infiltration

Public transportation users in the greater Montreal area faced significant disruptions on Monday morning, notably due to the shutdown of the Metro’s Yellow Line caused by water infiltration. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced, starting at 7:10 AM, that service was halted between Longueuil – Université-de-Sherbrooke and Berri-UQAM stations.

Service Interruption Details

Initially, service was expected to resume at 7:40 AM; however, the STM later updated the anticipated time to 9:40 AM via X at 7:38 AM. To accommodate passengers during this disruption, shuttle services were arranged between Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke and Papineau stations on the Green Line.

Further Service Impacts

Additionally, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) experienced a slowdown starting at 7:53 AM. The REM’s website indicated that only a limited number of cars were available, yet no explanation for the service slowdown was provided.

The commuter rail system was also affected. The Vaudreuil/Hudson line experienced an interruption at 8:10 AM due to a mechanical issue. The train numbered 18, departing from Hudson, had reportedly broken down at 7:33 AM. As of the last update, a return to normal service was anticipated by 8:45 AM.

Weather Conditions

Interestingly, no severe weather conditions were attributed to these disruptions. The morning temperature at Montreal-Trudeau Airport reached -19 degrees Celsius, with no significant precipitation forecasted for the remainder of the day.
