SAQ Supplies American Alcohol to Food Banks

The SAQ has announced a special initiative in response to a request from the Quebec government. This measure aims to assist food banks, specifically by supplying certain American alcohol products whose quality might decline before March 2027.

SAQ Provides Support to Food Banks

Starting February 12, eligible products will be available on SAQ.COM and at SAQ Dépôt locations. The initiative involves a financial contribution equivalent to the sale value of these products, potentially amounting to $8.6 million.

Details of the Initiative

  • Effective date: February 12, 2024
  • Potential financial support: Up to $8.6 million
  • Discount: 15% off all products from this initiative

Though this exceptional measure is being enacted, it is crucial to note that the ban on selling and ordering new American products, established on March 4, 2025, remains in effect. This ban was implemented in response to the trade tensions initiated by the Trump administration.

Eligible Products and Discounts

Customers will benefit from additional savings on products sold at SAQ Dépôt locations. This includes the standard discounts typically offered by SAQ Dépôt.

This move by SAQ aligns with efforts taken by other Canadian provinces, aiming to mitigate the impact of the ongoing trade conflict. Through this initiative, the SAQ seeks to address both consumer needs and community support during these challenging times.
