Billie Joe Armstrong Urges ICE Agents to Resign, Criticizes Trump at Super Bowl Party

Billie Joe Armstrong, frontman of the band Green Day, made headlines just days before the Super Bowl. At a Spotify-sponsored party on February 10, he called for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to resign. His remarks criticized the Trump administration, warning that ICE agents would ultimately be abandoned by their leaders.
Armstrong’s Impassioned Plea
During his performance, Armstrong urged ICE agents to quit their jobs, asserting they would be discarded by figures like Kristi Noem and Donald Trump. He stated, “Quit your shitty job. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — they’re gonna drop you like a bad habit.”
Musical Commentary and Altered Lyrics
In addition to his direct appeal, Armstrong changed some of Green Day’s lyrics to address current events. For instance, during “Holiday,” he altered the line “the representative from California has the floor” to “the representative from Epstein Island has the floor.” Prior to this song, he dedicated it to Minneapolis. Furthermore, he continued his trend of politically charged lyrics during “American Idiot,” stating, “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda.”
Upcoming Super Bowl Performances
Green Day is set to perform at Super Bowl LX on February 12, with their segment starting at 8 p.m. ET. They will introduce previous Super Bowl MVPs onto the field.
Other Major Performances
- Charlie Puth – “The Star-Spangled Banner”
- Brandi Carlile – “America the Beautiful”
- Coco Jones – “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
- Bad Bunny – Halftime Show
Notably, an alternative halftime show is being promoted by the organization Turning Point USA, featuring Kid Rock and several country artists, including Brantley Gilbert, Gabby Barrett, and Lee Brice. This has sparked controversy among certain political groups.
The Significance of Green Day’s Performance
Green Day’s participation in the Super Bowl reflects their strong ties to the Bay Area, where the game will take place. The band has maintained a significant presence in the music scene for over 35 years, reaffirming their status as a stadium-level act.
