Draper Embraces Revival, Prepared for Davis Cup Challenge

Great Britain’s Davis Cup team, a ten-time champion, is gearing up for a pivotal challenge in Oslo. After claiming the trophy in 2015, they have faced ups and downs, including an early exit last year.

Davis Cup Challenge Ahead

From February 6 to 7, Great Britain will compete against Norway in the first round of qualifiers. Following a crucial victory over Poland, they are regarded as favorites to progress.

Team Composition

The squad includes two singles players ranked in the top 30: Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie. They are joined by Jacob Fearnley as the British number three and a doubles pairing of Grand Slam champions Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash.

Norway, the host nation, will compete without world number 12 Casper Ruud. Ruud’s absence comes as he recently welcomed his first child. Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, ranked 133rd, is now Norway’s top singles player, scheduled to face Norrie in their upcoming match.

Prepared for a Tough Battle

Draper acknowledges the challenge posed by Norway, highlighting Kjaer’s impressive junior pedigree and potential on the professional circuit. He remarked on the need for the British team to “fight for every point” against a formidable and youthful opponent.

As they gear up, the winner of this tie will progress to face either Australia or Ecuador in the second round qualifiers. Success could lead them to the Davis Cup Finals in Italy this November.
