Suryakumar Yadav’s Update on Tilak Varma Disappoints Sanju Samson Fans

The Indian cricket team is preparing for a selection challenge as Tilak Varma nears full fitness following surgery. Team captain Suryakumar Yadav recently provided an update on Tilak’s recovery, which has significant implications for the team’s lineup.

Tilak Varma’s Return from Injury

Tilak Varma has been sidelined for nearly a month due to testicular surgery after suffering an injury during a Ranji Trophy match. The last time he played for India was on December 19, against South Africa in the second T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav confirmed, “Tilak has been shaping well. I heard he is playing two practice games in Mumbai on the 2nd and 4th.” The captain expressed optimism about Varma’s readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup, stating he has resumed batting, bowling, and fielding.

Impact on Team Selection

With Ishan Kishan currently performing well in the wicket-keeper position, Tilak’s return will prompt strategic decisions. Sanju Samson’s form has struggled, creating a potential reshuffle in the batting order. Yadav mentioned that having Tilak back would be a “good headache” for selection.

  • Tilak Varma’s last appearance: December 19, 2022
  • Expected return: Next week in Mumbai
  • Practice matches scheduled for February 2 and 4

The captain emphasized the depth of talent within the squad, stating that all players are capable of securing a spot in the playing XI. He remarked, “You will definitely get to know on the 7th if Ishan is.”

Sunder’s Rehabilitation Status

In addition to Tilak, all-rounder Sunder is undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. He sustained a rib injury while playing against New Zealand on January 11 but managed to contribute to the team’s victory.

Suryakumar also discussed Sunder’s progress, noting his return to batting and bowling practice. “Hopefully, we get him back soon,” he stated, indicating positive developments for both injured players.

The Indian team is set to arrive in Mumbai shortly, where they will engage in two warm-up matches before the T20 World Cup begins on February 7. This preparation phase is critical as the team gears up for the global tournament with potential key players returning from injury.
