Hamilton Soldier Honoured at Latvia Repatriation Ceremony

A soldier from Hamilton, Gunner Sebastian Halmagean, recently lost his life during a deployment in Latvia. He passed away near Riga on a Thursday, and the circumstances of his death are still being investigated. A repatriation ceremony is scheduled to honor him at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton in Quinte West, Ontario.

Repatriation Ceremony Details

The Department of National Defence (DND) announced the ceremony will take place on Tuesday. The aircraft carrying Halmagean’s remains is set to arrive at 2:30 p.m. ET. The ceremony is expected to commence shortly thereafter, between 2:45 and 3:00 p.m.

Following the ceremony, a motorcade will escort Halmagean’s body to Toronto via the Highway of Heroes.
