Suspended Labour MP Arrested for Second Rape Charge

A suspended Labour MP has been arrested again on multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault. Dan Norris, aged 66, was initially suspended from the Labour Party last year after an arrest linked to historical child sex offences. His recent arrest follows investigations by Avon and Somerset police, which began in December 2024.

Charges Against Dan Norris

The new allegations against Norris include:

  • Rape of a second woman
  • Sexual assault against a third woman
  • Voyeurism and upskirting involving multiple women

In April 2025, Norris was first detained on suspicion of serious charges involving a girl, including child abduction and misconduct in public office. Although the investigation into child-related offences is no longer active, the inquiries regarding his other alleged crimes are ongoing.

Police Statement on Investigation

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson highlighted the sensitive nature of sexual offence investigations. They stated, “Investigations into sexual offences are complex and can take significant time to conclude.” Ongoing support for victims is also being offered.

Political Background

Norris, who previously served as MP for Wansdyke from 1997 to 2010, won the North East Somerset and Hanham seat in the 2024 general election after defeating Tory former cabinet minister, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. He also held the position of directly elected mayor of the West of England from 2021 to 2025.

As a member of Parliament, Norris held various roles, including junior minister and assistant whip during Labour’s leadership under Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, respectively. He remains on conditional bail as the investigation continues.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
