Bridge Closed After Major Collision

A major collision on the Sheppey Crossing led to an extensive closure of the bridge, affecting traffic for over nine hours.

The incident occurred late on Friday night, around 11:30 PM. The bridge, which connects the mainland to Sheppey Island, was shut to all traffic. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to manage the fallout.

During the closure, drivers traveling to Sheppey were redirected off the A249 at Key Street. They were instructed to use Sheppey Way and the Kingsferry Bridge as alternative routes.

The bridge finally reopened to traffic by 8 AM on Saturday morning. Eyewitness testimonies described witnessing flames and black smoke at the accident site. Many were instructed to remain inside their vehicles and keep windows closed for safety.
