Ko’ox Transport in Campeche Accessible Without a Card

The public transport system, Ko’ox, in Campeche is preparing for a significant transition. In just five days, the service will begin charging fares on all routes. Martín Chang del Río, the company’s president, confirmed that every user will receive a transit card. For those without a card, alternative measures will ensure they can still access transportation.

Current User Statistics

Before the implementation of this new payment system, an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 users relied on public transport in Campeche. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 45% of the city’s population, approximately 112,500 out of 250,260 residents, utilizes public transportation.

Transitioning to a New Payment System

The introduction of transit cards aims to clarify whether user numbers remain stable or decline. Factors influencing transport choices include taxis, cooperatives, mototaxis, and digital apps. Under the new system, Ko’ox will analyze real passenger counts to pinpoint routes that may need more vehicles or alternatives.

Operational Phase and Improvements

Currently, the Ko’ox system is in a testing and evaluation stage, with fare collection yet to begin. Adjustments are being considered to enhance efficiency and coverage. Plans include procuring ten additional units in the 2026 budget, reflecting the agency’s commitment to addressing mobility needs.

Ongoing Training and Feedback

Ko’ox prioritizes operator training and actively monitors user feedback to improve service. The fleet consists of 224 units, and the company is dedicated to creating a safer and more efficient transport experience for its passengers.

As the transition progresses, the Ko’ox team will incorporate insights from users to ensure the system meets public demands effectively.
