At her hotel, art plays a vital role. The 18th-century vessels and Sardinian masks reflect the island’s heritage. Guests will find pastoral paintings by Giuseppe Biasi and large murals by Liliana Cano, who was an influential mentor to Giovanna.

This collection of indigenous art is the largest on the island. However, the atmosphere is lively rather than museum-like. Art is seamlessly integrated into daily life, accentuated by handmade cushions from local artisans.

Craftsmanship in Oliena

The village of Oliena is home to Franco Corrias, who runs Corrias 1940 Calzoleria Pelletteria. Franco continues the family tradition of producing durable shepherds’ boots, cowhide backpacks, and embroidered belts. His workshop dates back to 1940 and has seen little change since then.

Franco’s handwritten logbook reveals a global clientele, with orders from countries like Norway, Germany, and Canada. His dedication to craftsmanship is evident in every piece he produces.

Artisan Dairy in Mamoiada

Just a few kilometers away in Mamoiada, Andrea Pisu runs a small artisan dairy. He specializes in traditional Sardinian cheeses, including nodini, ricotta, and frughe. After offering guests a taste of Cannonau, the region’s robust red wine, Andrea invites them to join him in herding his flock of 150 sheep.

Andrea’s commitment to sustainable practices mirrors that of local winemaker Francesco Mulargiu. At Su Tapiu, Francesco creates grape-to-table wines that complement local delicacies like lados, a type of Sardinian flat gnocchi served with ragù and salty cheese.
