National Trust Seeks Approval to Extend Attingham Park Estate Access

The National Trust is seeking approval for a significant development at the Attingham Park Estate. This project aims to enhance visitor access and introduce various amenities.

New Facilities and Features

The proposed entrance building will include:

  • A café and toilets
  • Kiosks for information and services
  • A kitchen for food preparation
  • A bike hire point for outdoor enthusiasts

Additionally, the new car park will feature electric vehicle charging stations and educational information about a nearby World War II runway and aerodrome. This initiative aligns with the National Trust’s commitment to sustainability and historical awareness.

Expanded Access and Routes

The development plans also include the creation of eight miles (approximately 13 kilometers) of new and restored routes. These will consist of:

  • Wildlife trails for nature enthusiasts
  • Cycling tracks for adventure seekers
  • A wetland habitat area to support biodiversity

This new access point will be separate from the existing Attingham Park site. Membership benefits will apply, allowing members free access while non-members will incur a car parking fee.

Community Feedback and Planning Approval

Concerns have been raised by residents regarding potential traffic issues surrounding the proposed entrance. However, Shropshire Council planning officers have recommended that the project be approved. Their report emphasizes the importance of facilitating economic growth in the area.

The National Trust has yet to disclose the estimated costs for this extensive development project.
