Filip Chytil Rejoins Canucks After 44-Game Hiatus

The Vancouver Canucks are welcoming back center Filip Chytil, who has been sidelined for 44 games due to injury. Head coach Adam Foote confirmed that Chytil will play in the upcoming home game against the New Jersey Devils.

Filip Chytil’s Return

Chytil, 26, is set to center the Canucks’ second line, flanked by Drew O’Connor and Brock Boeser. The Czech player has not participated in a game since October 19, when he sustained an upper-body injury from a hit during a match against the Washington Capitals.

Injury History and Season Performance

Despite his history of head injuries, Chytil’s latest injury was classified only as upper-body. This season, he has played in six games and scored three goals. His previous stint with Vancouver included 15 games, resulting in two goals and four assists.

  • Season Stats (2023-24): 6 games, 3 goals
  • Previous Season Stats (2022-23): 74 games, 22 goals, 23 assists

Acquisition and Contract Details

Chytil was traded to the Canucks midway through last season as part of a deal involving J.T. Miller from the New York Rangers. Chytil was originally selected 21st overall by the Rangers in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently in the third year of a four-year, $17.75 million contract.

Canucks’ Current Situation

The Canucks are struggling, sitting last in the NHL with 39 points after 50 games. Their goal differential is minus-50, tied for the worst in the league. As the trade deadline approaches on March 6, Chytil may become a candidate for trade if he performs well in the upcoming matches.

Following the game against the Devils, Vancouver will continue its seven-game homestand with a match against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.
