Chiefs Seek Interview with Eric Bieniemy for Offensive Coordinator Role

The Kansas City Chiefs are considering a return to a familiar face for their offensive coordinator position. They have reportedly sought permission to interview Eric Bieniemy, who is currently the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears.
Eric Bieniemy’s Background with the Chiefs
Bieniemy previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs from 2018 to 2022. During his tenure, he helped guide the team to significant success, contributing to their Super Bowl victories.
Recent Developments
- The Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, has an expiring contract after the 2025 season.
- Nagy is considered a top candidate for the head coaching position with the Tennessee Titans.
- Bieniemy had numerous head coaching interviews while with the Chiefs.
Bieniemy’s Move to Chicago
After leaving Kansas City, Bieniemy made a lateral move to become the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders. Unfortunately, the team had a challenging season, finishing with a 4-13 record. Consequently, Bieniemy was let go following the dismissal of head coach Ron Rivera.
Current Status
Following his time with the Commanders, Bieniemy spent a year at UCLA before joining the Bears’ coaching staff for the 2025 campaign. His experience and familiarity with Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid could make him a strong candidate to return.
The Chiefs are keen to bolster their offensive strategy, and bringing back Bieniemy could be a pivotal move in achieving that goal.
