Pembina Valley Highways Reopen Saturday Morning After Closure

Highways in the Pembina Valley reopened Saturday morning after closures that occurred Friday evening. The majority of roadways in the Pembina and Red River Valleys reported clear conditions. Visibility was generally good to fair, despite occasional blowing snow.
Pembina Valley Highways Conditions
- Highway 75 from Emerson to Ste. Agathe was partly snow covered.
- Most other highways in the area experienced bare road conditions.
Weather Forecast for the Region
Northwesterly winds were forecast to gust up to 70 km/h early Saturday. Winds are expected to decrease as the day progresses. By afternoon, winds will shift to the southwest at around 20 km/h.
Temperatures in the Pembina Valley are anticipated to reach approximately -18°C, with windchill making it feel even colder. Morning windchill values may drop to the mid -30s, and it will remain near -30°C later in the day.
Upcoming Weather Systems
Another weather system, known as an Alberta clipper, is set to affect Southern Manitoba Saturday evening through Sunday. This system is expected to bring snowfall and strong winds, similar to conditions experienced previously. Extended periods of reduced visibility due to blowing snow are likely, according to CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner.
Motorists in the Pembina Valley should remain cautious as road conditions may change rapidly with the approaching weather system. Stay updated on local advisories and traffic reports as the situation evolves.
